Our home-from-home is the perfect base for your visit to this relatively undiscovered corner of the Eastern Algarve. As the villa is situated at the end of the access road, it enjoys a particularly peaceful situation, and the most amazing views south and east over the Guadiana River which forms the natural border between Portugal and neighbouring Spain.
The southerly and westerly views from the rear terrace overlook 4 different fairways of this challenging golf course, which also offers some of the most reasonable green fees in the Algarve. We have a 2-seater private golf buggy which is available at a small additional charge, recommended when playing this course in this lovely climate. Relax by your private pool, and then enjoy the additional facilities of the beach club of Castro Marim Golf and Country Club situated on the soft golden sands of Cabeco beach, just one of the many unspoilt beaches in this area, just a short 10 minute drive from the villa. Mobile Phone/Internet AccessThere is good mobile phone reception at the villa and surrounding area. There is Wi Fi access in the clubhouse, and you can buy e-vouchers via your laptop - 30 mins for 2 euros, 2 hours for 5 euros and all week for 50 euros.
The service is fast and reliable. Free internet access is available in Castro Marim itself (in a small square opposite Caixa Geral De Depositos bank) and also in the town of Vila Real in council operated internet shops. There is also an internet cafe at Monte Gordo. It is one of the first shops you come to on the beach front when travelling from Vila Real. If you have a laptop with Wi Fi, it will also work anywhere in the square at Vila Real. This costs 5 euros for 1 hour.
Coast/Beach
This part of the Algarve enjoys 27 km of sandy beaches. Monte Gordo, 10 minutes by car, has a 12.5 mile (20 km) stretch of shimmering sand, backed by pine forests and citrus orchards. For water sports enthusiasts, the off-shore lagoons are perfect for sailing, water skiing and windsurfing, while the sea-water temperatures here are the highest in Portugal. GolfThe villa overlooks the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fairway and greens of the 'Atlantic' course at Castro Marim. An additional 9 holes have recently been opened (May 2008) to complement the existing 18 holes, making a wonderful addition to the course. The new nine holes are longer than both of the existing nine holes and have some great open views, especially from the 4th tee where you can see the entire new course, as well as the par-5 in front of you which features an enormous lake. You can now choose which combination of the three nine holes to play - the existing 'Atlantic' and 'Guadiana' courses or the new 'Grouse' course, and Castro Marim offers some of the best value green fees (special rates on Wed. & Sat) in the whole of the Algarve.
Castro Marim itself has one of the best golf holes in the world. That's according to a book called '1001 golf holes you must play before you die' edited by Jeff Barr. The particular hole that 'must be played' is the 4th on the Guardiana Course - a challenging par 5 hole.
The book describes the course as 'one of the most Easterly courses on the Algarve with good views towards nearby Spain'. We have our own electric 2 seater buggy which can be hired at very reasonable cost, priced according to your stay, with a minimum of £20.00 for one day. Plenty of interesting challenges, and hiring our private two seater golf buggy will make the golf even more enjoyable on the Castro Marim Golf course. Travel
